Volunteer with Hands On Inland Empire!
October 2006

Welcome to the Hands On Inland Empire Newsletter

Hello to our volunteers, nonprofit partners and friends of Hands On Inland Empire.  We want to welcome you to this, our first newsletter.  We'll be striving to keep you up-to-date on all the ways you can be "hands on" in your community.

Ready to Volunteer?

HOIE Projects are fun, easy ways to get involved in your community. They are led by trained HOIE Project Leaders and require no long-term commitment.  Typically they are scheduled for 2-4 hours on weekends and evenings to make it convenient for you to volunteer.

Hands On Inland Empire Volunteers
To Help Revive Historical Terrace District in Redlands

Starting on November 4, HOIE volunteers will begin to Unearth History by starting a long-term project to restore the historic Terrace district in North Redlands. The ˝ mile strip of land has fallen victim to neglect and abuse. Volunteers will aid the committee in restoring it to its former glory. Weeds and dried ground cover will be removed to ready the area for transformation into a shining new “linear park”.

Plans include irrigating and planting, building a granite walkway, and turning the abandoned green space into a haven for walkers.   Click here to find out more and sign up.

Want to Make a Difference during the Holidays?

The holiday season brings out the best in people. If you're looking for ways to donate to those in need, or volunteer, visit the Holiday Opportunities Page on our website.

Does Your Organization Need Volunteers?

Hands On Inland Empire connects volunteers with community need year-round. Currently we're receiving lots of requests for Holiday needs.  If your agency needs volunteers during November and December for holiday-based projects, food and clothing drives, etc. please call Larry Deckel (x208) or Shalini Lall (x228) at 909-980-2857.  We want to get you the support you need! We're also happy to talk to you about meeting your volunteer needs year-round.

Thanks to The Home Depot

On Thursday, September 7, 2006, Hands On Inland Empire partnered with the Hands On Network and The Home Depot to beautify Mentone Elementary School in the Redlands Unified School District.  Nearly 300 volunteers participated in the 5 hour project where 2 murals were painted, 200 plants planted, a pave stone pathway laid, the entire perimeter of the school painted, shelving built and landscapes cleaned!  Whew!

Congratulations to The Home Depot for giving back to their community!
