Tamarind Neighborhood Project Phase
2)
North
Tamarind Elementary School Revitalization
Saturday, October 6
8:00
a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Join
us for our next exciting Hands On School project.
The students and teachers of Fontana's North
Tamarind Elementary School have asked our help to
brighten their drab campus and turn it into a
vibrant learning environment. We'll be making
tracks, literally, as we fill the campus with signs
of their cougar mascot, paint dozens of colorful
murals, help organize and stock their new library,
and paint new playground games throughout the
campus. On October 4, volunteers from The
Home Depot will start the restoration project by
building benches, storage units, restoring their
educational garden and more. Then on October
6, we need 250 volunteers from the community to
paint, paint, paint and ready the new library!

Space is limited
and pre-registration is required, so
sign up today. Go Cougars!

Task Captains needed for October 6th
If you are good at leading people, we
could use your help as a task captain for the North Tamarind project on October
6th. Tasks captains attend a one hour training and then lead a group of
our volunteers in the completion of a single task. Become a
community leader - volunteer to be a task captain! Training opportunities for
the North Tamarind project are on Saturday, Sept 29 at 10 a.m., Wednesday
October 3 at 3 p.m. or Thursday October 4 at noon.
Click here to sign up to be a task captain for this great project.
Phase
1 of North Tamarind Neighborhood Project a Huge Success!

On August
30,
351 volunteers came together and braved the
blistering heat to build a new, racing-themed
playground for the kids in the North Tamarind
neighborhood of Fontana. Kids were entertained by
health and literacy events, while volunteers laid
new sod, repainted the park gazebo, and built new
slides, rock-climbing walls, and a brightly colored
new playspace! Thanks to all our volunteers for
their amazing work!

Tell
your Volunteer Success Story and Win a Trip
To Disneyland for your family!

Do
you volunteer in your community? Do you have a personal story about an
experience that helped strengthen your commitment to volunteering? Or do you
know someone whose volunteer efforts have made a difference in people’s lives?
If
you answered yes to any of the questions above, Hands On Inland Empire
wants you to enter the “Find It. Do It. Share It” Contest sponsored by
CaliforniaVolunteers and Disney. Submit your own personal story about an
experience that helped strengthen your commitment to volunteering. By entering
the contest, you could help inspire someone else to find their own volunteer
opportunity and win a trip to Disneyland at the same time!
Volunteering means lots of things to different people. Volunteering can be
serving food in a kitchen line, teaching kids to read, donating blood, planting
a school garden, or keeping hospital patients company when they need it the
most. Hands On Inland Empire encourages people to find
a service opportunity that matches their interests, do
something to help make a difference and share their experience to
inspire others.
For more details and information about how to enter the “Find It. Do It. Share
It” Contest, visit
californiavolunteers.org. Deadline to enter is September 23.

Birthday to Me is a chance to bring joy to children living
at the High Desert Homeless Shelter by creating birthday
parties for those who might not otherwise have one.

ABC Tuesday (Arts,
Birthdays and Crafts) - New Project - Redlands. 2nd Tuesday of each
month.
Each month we gather a
group of volunteers to assist residents at Plymouth Village with
Arts and Crafts activities and to celebrate their birthdays.
Plymouth Village is a retirement community for seniors and those in
need of assisted living. Here's your chance to make a difference and
develop a rewarding relationship with someone who will deeply value
your company. This family friendly project allows volunteers to
participate as a family, though volunteers under the age of 17 must
be accompanied by a parent.

Family Fun Night and Pot
Luck at Ronald McDonald House - 3rd Thursday of the month.
The Loma Linda Ronald
McDonald House (LLRMH) is a “home-away-from-home” for families with
children undergoing treatment for cancer and other serious illnesses
at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital and other nearby facilities. We’re
looking to gather a group of volunteers who can put together a fun,
themed meal and activity for the families at the Ronald McDonald
House for an evening. We do this each month on the 3rd Thursday of
every month. This “pot-luck” dinner and activity will provide
sustenance, fun and companionship for the families staying in the
house. This is a family friendly project.
