Alternative Sentencing Program
The Alternative Sentencing Program provides comprehensive case oversight for adults and juveniles referred by the courts to complete community service. Specifically, our program staff matches clients to hundreds of qualified community nonprofit organizations that are willing to accommodate court ordered volunteers. In addition, our program provides the court with a detailed report verifying that all hours were conducted at an approved community organizations and that the work performed served to benefit the community at large.

What to Expect
Our staff will go over the court-ordered referral and help you determine the best course of action through an in-person interview. Translators are available upon request if you have any questions.
What Do I Need to Do Before Coming In?

Bring a copy of your minute order from the court that states the amount of hours due and the due date.

Bring a money order for $90 for adults or $75 for juveniles under the age of 18 made payable to "IEUW"

Can I enroll over the
phone?
No,
you must come to our offices in person
to complete payment, paperwork, and
assess the court ordered papers.
I'm under 18,
do I need a parent/guardian to come with

Yes, your parent/guardian must sign the
waiver agreement.

Our offices are open Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 8:30am - 4:30pm and closed from 12pm - 2pm for lunch.
Do I have a
pay a fee? How much?
Yes, everyone who participates in the
Alternative Sentencing Program pays a
fee. Please refer to our chart for
the fee amounts.
What forms of
payment do you accept?
We ONLY accept money orders. There
is no fee negotiation or fee waivers.
Why do I have
to pay a fee to complete my hours?
The fees you pay help to cover operating
costs including the time it takes to
interview, assess paperwork, monitor
your progress, coordinate your placement
with an agency, and provide you with a
completion certificate and report to
submit to the courts or appropriate
party.
Can I choose where to complete
my community service hours?
Yes, to an extent. Our staff will
assist you to determine the placement
that will best suit your needs based on
the court orders and any other
restrictions.
If there is a
site where I would like to volunteer,
may I do my community service hours
there?
Only if the organization is an active
partner of HandsOn Inland Empire.
If not, we provide you with an agency
agreement that the organization must
fill out. After we verify and
approve the agreement, you may complete
your community service hours there.
What if I live in a different
county from San Bernardino?
You will have to pay a transfer fee of
$65 to complete your community service
hours in your residential county and we
will coordinate with the community
service program in that location to
document your community service hours.
You will be subject to pay any
additional fees that the other community
service program charges.
I'm a
transfer from a different county.
What do I need to do?
You will need to bring a CLASP form
provided to you by the community service
program that you were referred to, a
money order for $90 payable to IEUW, and
come to our office to enroll.
Can you give
me an extension (past due date) to
complete my community service hours?
No, only the courts may extend the court
ordered deadline you were given.
I received
an extension from the courts, what
happens next?
You must bring the new minute order form
provided by the courts to our office
before your initial due date and pay an
additional $60 for an extension.
However, if you do not bring in proof of
an extension before the initial due
date, your case will be considered
closed, and you will need to pay $65 to
re-open your case and an additional $60
extension fee.
I need to be
assigned to a different location, what
do I do?
In the event that there is a problem
with your site assignment, you will need
to pay $65 in order to be reassigned to
a different site to complete your court
ordered community service hours.
I've
completed my hours. What do I do?
You will bring your completed timesheet
to our office in person where you will
receive a date stamped copy for your
records and we will submit the paperwork
accordingly.
