Donate Now
Donate Cash: Your cash gift to this fund ensures
that families and individuals most-affected by the Slide and
Grass Valley Fires will receive assistance needed to continue
their lives. This assistance may include help with housing and
food, counseling, transportation, and supplies necessary to make
temporary living quarters a “home”. Funds provided will be
distributed quickly; no administrative charge will be taken.
Donate Goods: The County of San Bernardino
Donations Center is taking donations of
blankets, shoes and socks, canned goods, water,
pampers, baby wipes, baby formula, and toys.
To donate call 909-386-9797. They are open from 7
a.m. - 7 p.m.
Do
you know anyone affected by the fire who needs
assistance? Advise them to call 2-1-1 or
888-435-7565. They have all the latest
information available to give assistance to
evacuees. For the latest Fire Information or
Road Closure information, visit the
San Bernardino County 2-1-1
webpage.
Wildfires Volunteer Update - October 30
In the next two days,
most area residents evacuated by the fires will be allowed to return to their
neighborhoods. Community meetings were held today to assess the immediate needs
of people affected by the fire, especially those who have lost their homes.
We are in
conversations about volunteer needs in the community to support these families
and hope to have the first opportunities posted in the next day or so.
We'll keep you posted!
Wildfires Volunteer Update - October 26
Situation Update - Grass Valley and Slide Fires
The evacuation order for Crestline has
been reduced from mandatory to voluntary. Now there are three communities
under voluntary evacuation: Crestline, Cedar Pines Park, and Valley of
Enchantment. Residents should check www.sbcounty.gov or call 211 for
information on how to return home.
The Grass Valley Fire is now 70%
contained and has consumed 1100 acres. The Slide Fire is now 15% contained
and has consumed 13,378 acres.
Area
volunteers stand at the ready
We are
proud to report that our region had the second largest response in the state
of volunteers ready to be activated. (The largest number of volunteers was
in San Diego County, the most affected region). At the present time there is
still no call for volunteers to assist in recovery projects in response to
the fire. We expect to have more news next week after community meetings to
assess damage take place.
We thank
all the volunteers who have joined this list and will update you next week
as we find out more about what is needed to help the area recover.
Wildfires Volunteer Update 10-24
At
the present time emergency first-responders are
still combating the fires. The Grass Valley fire
is estimated at 1,000 acres and the Slide fire
is at 5,119 acres. There is not a current call
for non-affiliated volunteers to respond at this
time. Volunteers are urged to stay at home and
keep away from affected areas until the fire is
under control.
We realize that everyone is eager to take
action, but the real need for volunteers is
likely to begin next week when relief and
recovery efforts hopefully will begin. Hands On
Inland Empire and San Bernardino County 2-1-1
are in touch with area non-profits to assess
their needs for donations and volunteer services
in conjunction with the fires. As these needs
become known, we will be passing this info
directly along to all of you on this list.
Here's what we know at the present time:
-
We are compiling a list of known needs for
those who wish to donate goods to affected
families. We should have that for you in the
next couple of days. People who have lost
everything have very specific needs for
items that meet their personal requirements.
We don't want to add to the stress for
evacuees by expecting them to sort through
small quantities of miscellaneous supplies.
-
Please do not make any attempts to collect
boxes of items and drive to fire ravaged
areas to give them out. Roads should be kept
as clear as possible for emergency vehicles
and to ease evacuations.
-
Please do not drive into other regions to
try to assist. While volunteers are being
deployed in some areas, there is no housing
for volunteers from out-of-region. Do not
worsen the situation by taking up hotel
space that could be used for evacuees.
-
We urge you to be patient and wait until
real needs are assessed. As we learned
during Hurricane Katrina, the greatest need
for volunteers will occur after the
immediate danger is passed. Two years after
the floods in New Orleans, volunteers are
STILL actively engaged in recovery efforts.

above) to get the latest updates.
