Agency: Hands On Inland Empire (a program of Inland Empire United Way)
Description:
There is an urgent need among Inland Empire nonprofit organizations for individuals to serve in a leadership role on their boards of directors. BoardLinks partners with local companies and corporations to recruit and train talented management-level and above individuals who are interested in serving as a board member but perhaps do not know which agency is the best fit for their interests and talents. Additionally, BoardLinks works with nonprofit agencies by enabling them to identify strengths and weaknesses, gaps and overlaps in their board composition.
Once an agency board snapshot is obtained, BoardLinks consultants work with agency staff to identify potential factors which would enhance the capacity of the board overall. Factors such as vocation and expertise, geographic location, age, gender and racial/ethnic identification combine to create the ideal balance of the ideal board of directors to sustain the mission of the organization.
Training empowers potential board candidates to become contributing members to a nonprofit board and to understand the legal responsibilities of board oversight.
Once training is completed, the BoardLinks service then assists the volunteer in their search for a leadership position that matches their mission-interest. By facilitating the connection between these newly trained leaders and opportunities in the community, we increase the pool of skilled and enthusiastic candidates, broaden the diversity on local boards, cultivate community networks, enhance corporate social responsibility and ultimately strengthen the nonprofit organization’s capacity to serve our communities.
