Play Hour

Agency: Mercy House

Description:

Supervise and interact with children ages 0 - 10 while their parents are in life skill classes. We offer playhour on Thursday evenings from 6:45-8:15pm in Ontario. You will need to fill out an application and get your fingerprints taken, if you are over 18.

What you need to know:

• Playhour starts at 6:45pm and ends at 8:15pm

• You can volunteer once a week or every other week (you decide)

• We ask that you make a 3 month commitment. The children get used to seeing you, so we take commitment very seriously

• If you are unable to make a scheduled shift you should call or email

• Volunteers do not need to do diaper changes or feedings. The kids should come to playhour just to play

• While playhour is taking place, the Moms are in lifeskills classes at the shelter

• If there is an emergency, then you can get the mom

• Staff and other volunteers will be on site with you.

• The kids range in age from 0-10

• There are typically no more than 10 kids at playhour

Mercy House provides housing and comprehensive suppport services to homeless men and women, mothers with their children, and families.

Assisi is a transitional shelter for single mothers with children. Families can stay at the shelter for 6 months up to 2 years while they get back on their feet. They must go back to work or school while living at the shelter. They must also attend 2 lifeskills classes per week and attend regularly scheduled case management meetings.
